Vendor Feature: Planterra Conservatory

We are really excited about this blog post because we get to highlight one of our favorite vendors, Planterra Conservatory! VP and Creative Director David Di Vincenzo answered a few questions about weddings at their venue and working with our band.

Tell us a little about yourself!
I design all of weddings at the conservatory, from menu, décor, floral and every detail in between, to create a beautiful and memorable evening for our couples and their families and friends. I have nearly 20 years of professional experience in arts fundraising, programming and event planning and design. I began my career in New York City and returned to the Detroit area about 10 years ago and joined the Planterra team in 2010.

What is your favorite thing about working in weddings?
We have the privilege of working with our couples throughout the planning process and helping them to create their vision for their wedding. It is always a pleasure to see the expression on our couple’s faces when they arrive to Planterra on the day of the wedding to see their design come to life. Also, in a world that is ever increasingly chaotic… how gratifying to be in the business of celebrating love!

Can you share a memory about working with Bluewater Kings Band?
A few years ago at one of our weddings, the Bluewater Kings Band backed the father of the bride as he performed “Sweet Caroline” for his daughter, which was then followed by the bride serenading the groom to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

It is a truly beautiful memory!

What is your most memorable experience as a wedding venue?
As much as I truly enjoy working with our couples on their wedding designs, a few years ago the DSO allowed myself and Sarah from our interior plantscape division to create an immersive event design for their New Year’s Eve gala celebrating the music of Prince. They granted us total creative freedom and the end result was the Planterra Purple Rain Forest–which was a botanical inspired-design expressed through a kaleidoscope of 80’s glamour.
